4 Simple Fixes That Solved Patchy Beards in Black Men

Hey brothers, you’re stuck in the patchy beard phase, and it sucks.

You walk into the room half-confident, wishing there was something you could do to fix your patchy beard, but to no avail.

You’ve probably watched countless YouTube videos, scoured Reddit, looking for that one answer that would help.

And found nothing; I was just like you.

Zero confidence, and no idea what to do next.

I was lost from all the conflicting advice influencers and Redditors had given me.

However, over time, I discovered four simple patterns in guys who actually went from patchy to a full beard and I want to share them with you.

I have a full guide going over general beard growth for Black men, so check this out before you come back here for the full fix.

Starting A Patchy Beard Growth Routine

While doing my research, I noticed a few products that consistently helped men, especially Black men, fill in their beards.

Oils like Jamaican Black Castor Oil and argan, along with beard balms and daily brushing, were common methods guys used to turn their beards from patchy to full.

Another pattern I came across was the use of a derma roller combined with minoxidil, usually when oils and balms alone didn’t deliver results.

That said, I’d recommend trying the natural methods first before moving on to derma rollers and minoxidil, since those can come with side effects like dark under-eye circles, palpitations, and skin irritation.

Here’s a quick image to recap (feel free to screenshot)

In addition, if your forehead is a little bigger, you’ll definitely benefit from my haircuts for Black men with bigger foreheads too.

Then come back here to see how you can fix your patchy beard in our next section through diet and supplements.

Trying Diet and Supplements to Fix a Patchy Beard

While digging deeper, I also noticed how much diet and lifestyle played a role in beard growth.

Black men who were getting real results weren’t just relying on oils or balms, they were backing it up with what they ate. Simple things like adding biotin, vitamin D3, and fish oil made a difference.

Here’s a pic of some of the products mentioned above (feel free to screenshot)

In addition to the above, getting enough sleep, drinking water, and hitting the weights also showed up again and again as part of the pattern.

And if you lift weights or just like wearing outfits that show off your build, check out my Michael B. Jordan hair and style guide. He’s the perfect example of showing off both your body and style in pairing.

Or into the streetwear/rapper-like style. i made a central cee style and looks guide.

Here’s a quick takeaway: don’t just treat your beard from the outside, fuel it from the inside too.

Before you keep reading, I put together a full guide that breaks down the beards of big names like Drake, James Harden, and even LeBron.

Inside, I show you exactly what they are doing right and how you can use the same steps to grow your beard from scratch.

Experimenting with Beard Styles That Hide Patches

Not every beard fills in perfectly, and that’s fine.

A lot of brothers make patchiness work by playing with different styles.

Brushing daily with a boar bristle brush or even using a heated comb can help your curls sit tighter and make gaps less noticeable.

Another trick I kept seeing was trimming smart.

Goatees, stubble, or even letting a barber shape things up the right way can completely flip how your beard looks.

Reference images of styles that hide patches will be shared below.

Sometimes it’s not about forcing growth, but working with what you’ve got until the rest fills in.

And remember, keeping your beard lined up and professional-looking is huge if you’re stepping into corporate or business settings.

A clean beard signals professionalism just like a good haircut does.

Having Patience and Realistic Expectations for Beard growth

The truth is, beard growth takes time.

Most guys don’t wake up with a full beard in a few weeks. It usually takes 6–9 months of consistency before you really see what your beard can do.

Genetics will always play a role too, so don’t stress if certain spots never fully fill in.

Take Damson Idris for example. He’s still in that in-between stage where he rocks stubble and is slowly growing into a fuller beard.

I actually made a full guide going over Damson’s haircut, style, and facial hair, so you can copy his Hollywood-level look.

It works for him because he keeps it neat and groomed.

That’s the same approach you should take: embrace where you’re at, keep it clean, and let time do the rest.
